Welcome to The Dandy Warlock!

Hello! And welcome to the blog! Here we hope to explore what it means to be both a gay men and practitioners of witchcraft. Our goal is to create a space with writings, poetry, art, and magical products geared first toward gay and queer men specifically, and others in general.

About the name...  Dandy is a powerful word. Originating in the 18th century, "Dandy" is used to represent a man who places importance on physical appearance and flair... on refinement and learning... on leisure and pleasure... and all with an air of "stepping up" in society; using their charms and style in order to rub elbows with the well-to-do. Quite often they find themselves skirting the edges of the societal norms for gender. The term evokes a certain je ne said quoi; the memory of Oscar Wilde... a green carnation on the lapel... a haughty mannerism... a cane... and an ascot or two. ;) Above all else a dandy is a self-made man... someone who has created themselves and become their own vehicle for creative and artistic expression; someone who appreciates the finer things in life, and are sometimes afforded such by a sheer act of social magic, aspiring themselves in to a higher social class from which they originated.

Warlock is another word of power. While our sisters have reclaimed the world 'witch', others like us here have been reclaiming 'warlock' for ourselves. While some insist that it can only be a derogatory term, we refer you to this article on the subject so that you know where we are coming from.

So...  as the weeks and months come we hope to share new ideas and art with everyone here. Stay tuned!
